MEMORIAL DAY

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Hey guys, service will be canceled tonight for Memorial Day. Please take this day to be truly thankful for the family member’s hand you can still hold. As our country remembers today the men and women who gave their lives so that we might have such freedom, let us reconcile with family members we may be at odds with. Let us say sorry and make amends. Let us not wait until we have lost a friend or family member to be truly thankful God has placed them in our lives as others may not have that luxury today. God bless you all, and GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Anxiety

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Do you find yourself worrying a lot? Do you feel anxious, and without complete peace? Anxieties can literally come out of nowhere. So, how does anxiety work in the life of the believer?

I had just woken from a good night’s rest, and immediately, out of the blue I felt extremely anxious. I thought to myself, “What the heck is going on here?” I wasn’t aware of anything to be anxious about. Immediately the Lord spoke to me, and revealed to me this was a spiritual attack, and that He was going to use this in my life to help me. I know immediately you may be thinking, “How in the world can anxiety help me as a Christian!

Interestingly enough it does.

For it was in that time of great anxiety that the Lord showed me that He was going to use this attack from Satan to help me to further trust in Him, and to rely less upon myself. I prayed, “Lord, if You’re allowing this anxiety in my life to show me that I need to trust in You more, then please help me to trust in You more.” Amazingly, the anxiety left at once!

The Lord has shown me yet again that I need to fully trust in Him, and not rely on my own abilities or become comfortable in my own efforts.

2Corinthians 3:5 “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.”

Less of us - More of HIM!

Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

God Bless!

Something Refreshing

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

It’s very easy for us to be warn down, and exhausted from our sins. Do you feel like you need a recharge, or wish you, like a web page, had a ‘refresh’ button? We actually can be instantaneously refreshed by the renewing of our spirit by the power of the Holy Spirit by confessing and repenting of our sins!

Don’t allow compromise or “it’s not that bad” type of sin in your life. If you do, you will be weighed down. You will become sluggish. You will ultimately be devastated.

Acts 3:19 “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord…”

Florida and Bahamas

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Great to be home after a wonderful trip to Calvary Chapel Ft. Lauderdale and to the Patmos Reality Discipleship in the Bahamas. I had such a refreshing time meeting the the pastors at Ft. Lauderdale. Pastor Mike Leger and Pastor Billy Venezia were huge encouragements, and I was blessed by how the Lord is using those guys to do fresh, new things for the kingdom of God!

Of course it was sweet getting to meet Pastor Bob Coy again. It was funny, when I first met him he was our guest speaker for the 2010 Youth Worker’s Conference in Murrieta, CA. I asked him how he was doing, and he, very seriously, started complaining that his tea was supposed to be heated to 89 degrees, and that bowl of snacks was supposed to only have red Skittles - not the assortment! He had me going for a while, but he quickly let on that he was just messing with me.  The Lord has used him in great ways in my life, so it was cool to meet him and see the amazing church God’s blessed him with.

Pastor Chet is an amazing director and visionary for the Patmos Reality Discipleship Program. The man is hardcore, and very, very gifted. He gave us a pretty close first hand experience of what the students go through during their time at Patmos. I am really excited that we, Costa Mesa, are partnering with Ft. Lauderdale in establishing the Patmos Reality Discipleship Program at our Bible College campus in Brazil.

On my way back from the Bahamas to Florida, our plane was struck by lightning. Ladies in the back of me were screaming, “Jesus, Jesus saves us!” I was clinching the seat in front of me praying that I wouldn’t throw up as our plane was dropping from turbulence in the sky. I was asked, “Did you share the Gospel to the people on the plane?” In answer to that, No, after what happened on the plane everyone got right with Jesus!

Needless to say, I made it back alive, and overall I had an amazing time!

Please pray for my sister-in-law Katherine…

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Hey guys, last year I publicly asked for prayer for my sister-in-law Katherine. She has battled a rare disease which damaged her kidneys and her kidneys are failing her. At this point she is headed towards dialysis or a kidney transplant, but I am asking that you would please pray for her healing!

She is a Christian and loves the Lord so I’m asking that you please pray for her and her family during this time.

Thanks so much.

1,000 PEOPLE PRAYING

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Remember to Facebook and Tweet

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Hey guys, we really want to blow up Facebook and Twitter with what the Lord is doing here on Mondays! So, here’s the plan. You need to remember 3 words. Yes, only 3 words.

1. “GOING”: means you’re GOING to Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa on Monday night at 7:30pm. Simple, we know.

2. “WATCHING”: means you’re WATCHING the Live webcast of Monday Nights Live at mondaynightslive.com!

3. “LISTENING”: means you’re LISTENING to the Live radio broadcast of Monday Nights Live on KWVE 107.9 or on any of the other stations re-broadcasting!

Here’s the plan:

Every Monday, beginning after you’ve read your Bible in the morning, start posting on your Facebook and Twitter home pages that you’ve got Monday Nights Live tonight. Re-post it throughout the day until you get to the point where you have no more time to post before Monday Nights Live. Then, for your final post,  you post 1 of the 3 words “GOING”, “WATCHING”, or “LISTENING” to MONDAY NIGHTS LIVE on your home page.

JOB DONE.

theHOUSE Women’s Afternoon Tea

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

The women of theHOUSE are pleased to announce their next event, “From the Inside Out”. When the the world is placing so much emphasis upon women being more concerned with their external appearance than who they are inside, women must be reminded to develop the true beauty which will never fade - a beautiful heart that is right with Jesus. So, how do you live a godly life, or what does a godly life look like?
Instead of trying to follow a bunch or rules and regulations of what to do and what not to do, one’s heart must delight to do the will of God. Being changed on the inside will change who you are on the outside. With the power of Jesus Christ you can be changed from the inside out.

The Date is November 14th.

The Time is 3pm.

The Location is theHOUSE.

Great Having Esterlyn and Bob Caldwell

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

I was so stoked to have Luke and the guys from the band Esterlyn lead us in worship last Monday, and Pastor Bob rocks. It was so cool how we on Monday Nights have been stressing the importance of getting involved in ministering to others, to have Pastor Bob really drive the point home.

Simply, ask the Lord for opportunities to minister to others. Wait and see what happens!

So nice to be close…

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Man, moving is never a really pleasant thing to go through. Packing, lifting, cleaning, renting a U-haul truck, and all that good stuff… Yet, moving closer to where you spend the most of your time is sweet! I just moved closer to Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, and it’s so cool being close. Coming home for lunch, and driving only 5 minutes to church is the best setup in the world.

Ruth and I had been praying about moving closer to church because we’re always there, and living off a toll road, driving 20+ minutes to church, back for dinner, then back for evening service was taking a toll literally and figuratively with gas, time, wear and tear, etc…

So, Ruth had been speaking with one of our receptionists at the church, and had been telling her our desire to move closer to Calvary. The next day, a woman randomly called the church and asked that same receptionist if she knew of anyone at the church who would like to lease her home. Our friend Linda (the receptionist) immediately thought of us and called me immediately. I called the woman leasing her home right after that.We saw her house the next day, and she agreed to lease us her home.

The only catch was that we weren’t really looking to move yet because at the time our lease wasn’t up for another 3 months. The Lord took care of it though. The one stipulation that the woman leasing her home had was that she would be able to stay for another 3 months, and at the end of that time she’d allow us to begin our lease.

This was absolutely incredible!  The Lord perfectly worked it out!

We were able to find a home 3 months in advance (Or should I say the Lord found us a home…). Also, we were able to finish our lease without any penalties, and it worked out perfectly with out landlord’s schedule.

It’s so cool how the Lord supplies our needs as we seek Him. He knows how to take care of it!

God bless you guys!

21 Rules Broken

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Hey guys, I told you I’d make these available for you on the website so you could look over them… Here ya’ go!

Garid

The 21 judicial laws of the Sanhedrin which were broken at Christ‚s trial are as follows:
1.      According to Exodus 23:8, there was to be no arrest by ecclesiastical authorities that was effected by a bribe.
2.      There were to be no steps of criminal proceedings after sunset.
3.      Judges and Sanhedrin members could not participate in the arrest.
4.      There were to be no trials before the morning sacrifice.
5.      All trials were to be public: secret trials were forbidden.
6.      Sanhedrin trials were only to be held in the Hall of Judgment in the temple compound.
7.      The proper procedure for the trial was to be first the defense and then the accusation.  The judges who argued for innocence were to speak before the ones who argued for guilt.
8.      While all judges of the Sanhedrin may argue in favor of acquittal, all may not argue in favor of guilt.

9.      On the basis of Deuteronomy 19:15, there were to be two or three witnesses, and their testimonies had to be in perfect agreement.
10.  There was to be no allowance for the accused to testify against himself.
11.  Based on Leviticus 21:10, the High Priest was forbidden to tear his garments.
12.  The charges against the defendant were not to originate with the judges.  They could only investigate charges brought to them.
13.  When the charge was blasphemy, guilt could only be established if the defendant had actually pronounced the very name of God.
14.  A person could never be condemned on the basis of his own words alone.
15.  The judges‚ verdict could never be announced at night.
16.  In cases of capital punishment, the trial and the verdict of guilt could not occur at the same time.  They had to be separated by at least 24 hours.
17.  Voting for the death penalty had to be done by individual count beginning with the youngest judge so that the young would not be influenced by the elder.
18.  A unanimous decision for guilt showed innocence since it was impossible for a minimum of 23 men or a maximum of 71 men to agreed without plotting.
19.  The sentence could only be pronounced three days after the guilty verdict.
20.  Judges must always be humane and kind.
21.  A person condemned to death could not be beaten or scourged beforehand.

Psalm 4

Psa 4:1     To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in [my] distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.
Psa 4:2     How long, O you sons of men, [Will you turn] my glory to shame? [How long] will you love worthlessness [And] seek falsehood? Selah
Psa 4:3     But know that the LORD has set apart [fn] for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him.
Psa 4:4     Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah
Psa 4:5     Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And put your trust in the LORD.
Psa 4:6     [There are] many who say, “Who will show us [any] good?” LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.
Psa 4:7     You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.
Psa 4:8     I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

The Lord really spoke to me this morning through this portion of my devotional. Especially in verse 3… The Lord has truly set us apart from the world, or in other words “sanctified” us from the world for His service. He knows those who are His and He hears their cries. Call unto the Lord and He will answer you and show you great and mighty things.

Pray to the Lord and He will relieve you of your stress by His great mercy. No matter how bad the world gets around you, don’t conform to their ways, but remain pure before the Lord as He has called you to be holy as He is. Get fighting mad against sin attacking your relationship with Jesus - be still and know that He is God as you spend time in His word. Sacrifice your fleshly wants and desires in order to be righteous and trust God to get you through it. There is none good but God; remove God and you will see immense evil. Pray for God’s grace in your life. Be filled with joy as you walk close to Jesus - this type of joy the world can’t offer even with the abundance of “things”. Be at peace and rest when you’re supposed to be resting for the Lord will keep you safe.

God bless,

Garid

This is the final week of Jesus’ life…

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Almost 2,000 years ago today, Jesus was living His last week of life before His death on the cross. Yesterday, was Palm Sunday, the day Jesus made His triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The crowd, when they saw Jesus coming, began laying their clothes down upon the road and waving palm branches. They cried out Hosanna, Hosanna, Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord! Jesus’ purpose was to lay His life down for the sins of the world.

This Easter, let’s not forget that God loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever would believe in Him would not perish but have everlasting life! Jesus conquered sin by His death on the cross, and conquered death by His glorious resurrection! Death could not hold Him down!

He is risen - He is risen indeed!

To all those in Japan…

Again after last night…

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

I left Calvary Chapel really excited about what the Lord is doing on Monday Nights! Christians are truly getting excited about their walks with God. Those who don’t know Jesus are coming to know Him in a personal way. I really believe that we are in for some great things this year, and what happened again last night is only the beginning! I think that this new FACEBOOK Campaign is really going to be getting the word out there to those who don’t know that anything like MONDAY NIGHTS LIVE exists!

Stay strong, and lets spread the word before next Monday night.

Peace and God Bless,

Garid

Celebrated my 29th birthday!

Friday, March 13th, 2009

On Wednesday, March 11th, 2009,  I set off on my last year of life in my 20’s. My first 29 years of life have flown by so fast, but from what I hear the passing of time only accelerates from here! It’s been like by birthday week this week. On Tuesday, went out with Ruth, Hud, my mom and dad, Torin, Brenen, and Morgan to Beni Hana’s. Man, that was good! On Wednesday, I had a half-day at church, then went shopping with Ruthy. We came back for CPK at my mom and dad’s house, and finished up the night with some Haagan Dazs Ice Cream - caramel cone to be exact! Thursday night (yes the saga continues) Ruth and I were celebrating our 2yr anninversary of our first date. (Two years ago on the 12th of this month, the Lord gave me the best belated birthday gift in the world. It was the day that Ruth and I first ever hung out. We went to the Cheesecake Factory). So, in honor of our first date we yet again went to Cheesecake to commemorate God’s great hook-up in my llife!

Now here it is Friday already with the HOUSE tonight… What a great week!

So Much To Be Thankful For!

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Pastor Jake Harman and myself visited a guy in the hospital today. He’s 63 and having a pretty rough time physically. Being there with him in the hospital reminded me of how often we take our health for granted. We have so much to be thankful for!

I had never met this gentleman before, and he’s pretty much been bed-ridden for sometime now, but he listens every Monday Night on KWVE 107.9fm.

He loves it when we say hi to all the people listening on the radio!

Let’s not miss a day to be thankful for how much God has blessed us with! God bless you guys!

theHOUSE College Bible Study

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

The Lord has really been doing a cool, fresh work at the HOUSE College Bible Study. A huge light shining “the HOUSE” illuminates the outside wall of the warehouse where we meet every Friday night at 7:30pm. The House study is for 18-25 year olds ONLY.

It seems like that’s the age group that isn’t really being included into major churches these days, so it’s really cool that our senior pastor,  Chuck Smith here at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa has given us the green light to do this study.

I remember when Pastor Chuck asked me to start this study. I thought to myself, “College kids, Bible study, Friday nights, that’s a tough combo”. In actuality, God has done a tremendous work on Friday nights, with college aged guys and girls, studying the Bible!

If you are 18-25 and are looking to DO SOMETHING BETTER with people your age then join us every Friday night at 7:30pm.

Back in Orange County…

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

What’s up guys?! It was great to be back in Orange County this last Monday night. I was in Boise, Idaho for the weekend, and man it was a packed weekend! I spoke Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday night, Sunday morning, Sunday night, and flew back to L.A. late Monday afteroon, and went straight to MONDAY NIGHTS.

Calvary Chapel Boise is a really cool church. The senior pastor, Bob Caldwell teaches a youth study on Sunday nights called Engage Truth. If you’d like to check it out go to: http://www.engagetruth.com/. Also, the band Esterlyn, which has played for Monday Nights, is based out of that church as well.

Anyways, great to be home, thanks for your prayers.

Garid

I’m in IDAHO.

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

I’ve been speaking at a youth camp about 3 hours away from Boise. It’s been going great so far! The Calvary Chapel Boise youth group has some great kids, and I feel that they’re going to be used by the Lord in amazing ways.

It’s been snowing here since I’ve gotten here. Snow may not be as special to those who live here, but it’s been a great experience for me! It’s not something you see too often in sunny California.

I’m speaking again tonight in about 10 minutes, so I have to go… And…

I’ll be speaking again tomorrow (Sunday) morning for this camp and tomorrow night for Engage Truth back at Calvary Chapel Boise. I’ll then be coming back to California in time for MONDAY NIGHTS LIVE! See you Monday!

Just got back from the 2009 Youth Worker’s Conference

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

What’s up guys? I hope this note finds you all well. Ruth, Hudson, and I just got back from our conference center down in Murrieta Hot Springs for the 2009 Youth Worker’s Conference! It was amazing. I think there were about 400 or so youth leaders and pastors at this year’s event. It was a great time of hanging out with other Christians involved in ministry. Hearing the special speakers was extremely encouraging.

(SHOUT OUT) Al, Jake, Josh, Lindsay, Grant, and all the REFUGE high school ministry put in hard work and did a great job. It’s cool working with those guys!

But, I am now off to leave first thing tomorrow for Maui. One of my friends asked me to do his wedding in Maui. So, I get to go back to my old home Kihei. Unfortunately, it’s just for the weekend. We’re flying back to L.A. first thing this Monday morning so I can be back for Monday nights! Man, you gotta know I love you guys!

Keep, submitting your questions on the blog site under “What Questions Would You Like Answered”. We’re compiling some questions to be answered by video. Stay posted for new video blogs coming soon - I promise!

Also, if you’re blessed by MONDAY NIGHTS, would you commit to pray for the service and for all your peoples who don’t know Christ? Sign up on “1,000 people praying by 2010.”

God Bless, and see you Monday.

p.s. pray for me while I’m out suffering doing the Lord’s work in Hawaii :)

Don’t Hold Back

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

Just a quick note of encouragement. If you are holding back any part of your life from Christ give it to Him today.

1 John 2:16 For all that [is] in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–is not of the Father but is of the world.

Happy New Year!!

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

To all of you who make MONDAY NIGHTS what it is - for we wouldn’t be the same without you - thank you for a wonderful year!

Man, the Lord has blessed me this last year. I have so many thing to be thankful for. I am thankful for my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I want to be closer to Him this year than ever before, and I know the Lord has cool things ahead for me in 2009.

I am thankful for my beautiful wife Ruth, whom I love more and more every day , and she loves me too - WHAT A BONUS! I am thankful for my son Hudson. It feels like it’s been years since Hudson was born back in June of 2008, or maybe it’s just the years of sleep I feel that I’ve missed.

Anyways, once a man participates in a 9 month course in manhood with a crescendo in the delivery of his baby son - you never go back. Believe me. Wow! We had our first Christmas this year and it was a special treat not having to pretend it was cold outside!

The Lord really gave me an insight towards the end of 2008 that I’d like to share with you. I felt like the Lord said, “Garid, if you were to die, and you were to look back on your life, would there be things you wished you would have done?”  Maybe I was experiencing some sort of  ”quarter - life” crisis, since I’m nearing 30, but nonetheless it got me thinking. My answer didn’t include; I wish I would have worked out more, did music more, surfed more, or traveled more. Very concisely I felt that if I could have gone back I would have done 2 things:

  1. I would have read my Bible more.
  2. I would have have spent more time with my wife and son.

These are the things that really are important - our relationship with Jesus and our relationships with our family.

So may the 2009th year of our Lord…

(history is divided into two time periods. B.C. - “Before Christ”, and A.D. - Anno Domini, Latin for “The year of our Lord Jesus Christ” starting at the birth of Christ. So, we’re in the 2009th year since Christ’s birth or the 2009th year of our Lord… just thought I’d share.) Where was I…? Oh yeah,

So may the 2009th year of our Lord be one in which our priorities are in order, and one in which we focus on the things that truly matter. May we not wait until the end of our life to wish we would have done differently.

“He is no fool to give what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”

Happy New Year!

Just fill in the box and click “SEND INVITATION” and you’re set!

Text messaging should be available right after the new year so stay posted!

p.s. If you have any good ideas for inviting people or for improving this site let us know by commenting on this blog. We may not use them, but we will definitely consider them!

Christmas Time Comes Once a Year and With It Comes…

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Christmas is one of the most special times of the year!

“…And they shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

What a monumental announcement - that this baby Jesus, that we can picture in our mind laying in manger, would eventually live 33.5 years and die on the cross to save the world from its sins.

This year, whatever gift we have to wrap, or whatever gift is not even there to be wrapped, may we as Christians truly realize that we already possess the greatest gift ever given - SALVATION through JESUS CHRIST! Let us give the greatest gift by giving JESUS this holiday season - it’s the gift that keeps giving all year long!

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Thank you…
